Mornings with Sam

Because of our opposite work schedules, Sam and I rarely have mornings together. With school this semester, his schedule has slightly changed and he has Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings off. That means we can spend a few minutes together while I get ready in the mornings. I'm actually having to adjust to it because I'm so used to getting ready alone. This Tuesday morning was particularly nice. Sam woke up before me to study so I walked into the living room to see him sitting on the couch, one dog stretched out beside him, the other napping on the floor. It was such a warm, gooey feeling to see him in the am.
He excitedly told me about how the rain barrel he had just installed was already 1/3 full from a moderate rain. Since I work for a green company, we are trying to reduce our own carbon footprint and having fun along the way. Our rain barrel will allow us to irrigate our garden for free and if the world goes to shit and modern conveniences along with it, we can collect rainwater and boil/filter it for uses all in our quaint backyard. I'm just kidding, if the world goes to hell, we are getting the crap away from Atlanta. All kidding aside, it's nice to see Sam get so excited about it. He did a brilliant job of installing it and made a rock-steady platform for it so that it will have pressure to run a soaker hose. For the past week, he had been outright giddy we've had so much rain and is already planning for a second overflow barrel.

Our morning continued nicely, I made coffee and we sat and watched some tv while I woke up. Eventually, I got the strength up to get off the couch and change out of my pajamas. While I was in our room, I heard a loud crash followed by Sam yelling, "Bruce!!!!" I ran back into the living room and Sam was bent over picking up pieces of a broken coffee mug off the ground. Apparently, as Sam described it, he had put his full cup of coffee on the side table and stupidly left it unattended. Bruce thought that Sam had graciously poured the cup for him. Pit bulls, I guess, really enjoy a good cup of coffee because he drank the whole cup. To let us know he was done and maybe to say thank you, he then knocked the cup onto the ground. Bruce, I swear, is the Urkel of dogs, because every time he does something like that he gives us a "Did I do thaaaatttt?" face. Sigh. I can't stay mad for long.

Soon after the coffee incident, I gave the puppies and Squeaky a kiss on the head before leaving. When I went to kiss Sam goodbye, he grabbed me into his arms and we started slow dancing in the living room. It was such a sweet and spontaneous moment. It made it really hard to leave for work. I just wanted to stay in that moment for just a little bit longer, savor it, commit it to memory. Sam and I don't get to spend much time together but when we are able to have moments like this, is refreshes us. It reminds us that we love each other and that we are so glad to be together, even if it's spent frequently apart.

Since I haven't blogged in a while, here's some photos of the family!
Bruce to your left, Willa to your right, and their bright green teething bone in the middle.

This photo is capturing a rare moment of brokered piece between Squeaky and Willa.

Bruce is such a lovable derp!
Willa and her stick...which I think is a tree limb.

Bruce and his bench. He like to look out at his vast domain in a very kingly fashion.

When Bruce isn't sitting on a bench, he like to sit on Sam's chest and make it difficult for him to breathe.
